Chronos is time

chronos

Chronic means continuing a long time or recurring frequently.  Chronicle is a record of events in order of time.  Chronology is the sequential order in which past events occur or the science of arranging time in periods.  Chronological means to be arranged in the order of time.   A chronograph is a timepiece used to mark the exact instant of an occurrence.  A chronoscope is an electronic instrument for measuring accurately very brief intervals of time.  Synchronous means occurring at the same time.  (Definitions from dictionary.com)

All of these English words come from the Greek word chronos which means time, a particular time, or season. (biblehub.com)  There are more English words, but the ones that I saw were mostly variations on the above words.  This chronos word for time occurs 54 times in the New Testament.  About a third of these instances are in the book of Acts.

Most people tend to fall into one of two categories: those who are usually on time and those who are almost never on time.  Time plays a pretty big part of our everyday lives.  We have to get up by a certain time in the morning to get ready for work or school.  We have to get our kids to school (or the bus) by a certain time.  Church begins at a certain time.  Our favorite TV shows come on at a certain time.

God has His own perfect time for the universe.  He has His own perfect time for our lives.  Many times we do not understand His timing.  We would prefer for things to happen at a time that is convenient for us.  It can take a while to learn to trust God’s timing in our lives and the lives of others.  If you are having trouble waiting, ask God for some help trusting in His time.  We can all struggle with this at some point in our busy lives.

Matthew 2:16  NIV  When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.

Mark 2:19 KJV  And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.  (I wasn’t sure if I should include this one or not.  It could be confusing.  The Greek here reads: as long as time they have the bridegroom with them. Most translations seem to drop the word time here: NIV, ESV, NASB, NLT, KJV, etc.  Only the really literal versions keep it in some form such as in the Berean Literal Bible: as long a time as they have.)

Luke 1:57 ESV  Now the time came for Elizabeth to give birth, and she bore a son.
