Huios is son

Son of God.  Son of man.  Two phrases that describe the divinity and the humanity of Jesus.  Around 2,000 years ago, God sent his son to this earth as a baby, to become Mary’s son.  This is the Christmas story.  It’s the season for manger displays and anger displays.  A time for some to celebrate the birth of Jesus and a time for some to try their hardest to take Jesus out of the season.

Our word for this week is huios, which is Greek for son. This word is used in the New Testament 382 times , according to Strong’s.  Significantly more than half of these are found in the four Gospels.

Jesus called himself the Son of Man.  In Thayer’s Greek Lexicon, it is explained that this could be to “designate himself as the head of the human race” , Jesus, who was a “perfect man and acted on behalf of all mankind.”  (http://biblehub.com/greek/5207.htm)
