Pipto is fall

Pipto is a Greek word for fall used in the New Testament.  It can mean I fall, I fall under, or I fall prostrate.  (biblehub.com)  According to Strong’s it occurs 91 times in the New Testament.  On Bill Mounce’s website, pipto is defined as to fall, collapse; to bow down; to die.  (billmounce.com)

As with many verbs, sometimes a prefix is added to the word that changes it’s meaning slightly.  Here are some examples with pipto.  The word empipto means I fall in or am cast in.  It is found 7 times in the New Testament.  A verse would be Hebrews 10:31 NASB:  It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Ekpipto means I fall out, fall away, fade away, or wither.  (Strong’s)  It occurs 10 times in the New Testament.  Acts 12:7 talks about chains falling off of Peter’s wrists.  1 Peter 1:24 talks about a flower falling or fading away.  Galatians 5:4 NIV says, “You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.”

Prospipto means I fall down before or I beat against.  It is found 8 times in the New Testament.   (Strong’s)  Matthew 7:25 has “And the rain fell, and floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.”  Here prospipto is translated as beat, the winds beat.  Fall here is pipto, the house did not fall.  Another example is Mark 3:11, which in the NIV is “Whenever the impure spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, ‘You are the Son of God.'”

The following occur 1-3 times each:

parapipto: I fall away or back: Hebrews 6:6-if they shall fall away

katapipto: I fall down or fall prostrate: Luke 8:6-seed fell upon rocky ground

peripipto: I fall into the midst of: Luke 10:30-fell among robbers

apopipto: I fall away from or fall off: Acts 9:18: there fell from his eyes

These are referenced from Strong’s Concordance.
