Hydor is water

I was thinking this week about how my garden could really use some water.  It’s been pretty dry here in central Pennsylvania lately and we could use some rain.  Then I wouldn’t have to water it myself.  Water is extremely important to our everyday lives.  We drink it, we bathe in it, our bodies are made of it.

Hydor

The Greek word ‘hydor’ means water.  It may also be seen as hudor.  It occurs 80 times in the bible, according to http://www.biblehub.com

In the New Testament, followers were baptized in water.

Matthew 3:11 NIV  I baptize you with water for repentance.

Water can be dangerous.  People or animals can drown.  Ships can sink.

Luke 8:24 NIV  The disciple went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”  He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm.

Matthew 8:32 NIV  He said to them, “Go!”  So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.

Revelation 8:11 NIV  the name of the star is Wormwood.  A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter.

We use water to clean.

John 13:5 NIV  After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

Jesus talks about living water.

John 4:10 NIV  Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

John 4:14  NIV  but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.  Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Revelation 22:1 NIV  Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.

Revelation 22:17 NIV  The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!”  And let the one who hears say, “Come!”  Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

John 3:5 NIV  Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.
