Theos is God

Theos

God.  Who is God?  In Spanish the word for God is Dios.  In French: Dieu.  In Portuguese: Deus.  In Italian: Dio.  In Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish: Gud.  In Croatian, Bosnian, and Slovenian: Bog.  In Estonian: Jumal and in Finnish: Jumala.  In German: Gott.  There are many others.  According to Wycliffe.org there are about 7,000 different languages in use today in the world.  (https://www.wycliffe.org/about/why)

In Greek, the word for god is theosTheos can mean God or a god, just like in English.  I will quote biblehub.com here: “Long before the NT was written, 2316(theos) referred to the supreme being who owns and sustains all things”.  http://biblehub.com/greek/2316.htm (2316 is the Strong’s number)

So, who is God?  This is a difficult question to answer, because He is so much more than we can even comprehend.  The whole Bible is about God and though we read it again and again, we still discover more about God as He reveals more of Himself to us.  He is the one true God, the creator of heaven and earth, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God who sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for the sins of this world so that we, the men and women on earth, might have a way to spend eternity with Him.  With He who is compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, sovereign, jealous, merciful, our refuge and strength, sun and shield, flawless, spirit and so much more.  (Exodus 34:6, Deuteronomy 3:24, Deuteronomy 4:24,31, Deuteronomy 33:27, Psalm 46:1, Psalm 84:11, John 4:24)

Theos occurs over 1000 times in the New Testament, so it is a little difficult to choose which verses to list.  I tried to choose those that talk about who God is.  I’m going to share one verse from each book.
